Corona Virus and how it affects you

So I've been put in a self-imposed quarantine, with encouragement from my work.

The same as everyone else in my company, we all work from home, cause we all work in the IT sector.

Anyone else want to share their experiences with the virus?

 

Well classes were suspended for 15 days, hospitals don't accept flu cases because of immunodeficient patients and some panic shopping

 

I work IT too, but I work on hardware not software, so I need to go to work. The software people that can are all working from home. Client machines are all being cleaned with disinfectant before being received and hand sanitizer is everywhere. Different floors in my company building are being semi- quarantined from each other to try to avoid mass infection if something comes up. One employee already confirmed infected (different building than me though).

It's just a matter of time until I catch this motherfucker tbh.

 

Meanwhile working at the largest telecom company here and they can't be bothered to supply us with hand sanitizer. Just sending us graphics to our emails about washing our hands.

 

Spain supermarkets are like walking dead with 0 stock of pretty much everything and i already have coronavirus (blame the people who travel, instead of staying at their home). So for your good, stay at home as much as u can and i hope the best for all you. I have no other choice but to stay home for 15 fucking days.

Did you try today? My mercadona was re-stocked. The panickers had already passed, didn't see any moron with plastic bags on their heads.

schools, universities, large companies, shops, bakeries, supermarkets without products, hospitals without a place, a useless government, ocean liners with infected people disembarking ... Of course, the hospitality industry does not know what to do. what can i say? Spain is different

 

Upcoming conferences and travel all cancelled, university in-person teaching suspended indefinitely.
I can just chill and do actual work for the next few weeks... until I get infected.

 

As many of you know, I'm a school teacher in London. We're in a really interesting situation at the moment, being the only country keeping schools open and adopting a different strategy entirely.

Almost all of my friends in other professions are now working from home, self-isolating or taking serious measures to protect themselves. Yet me and my colleagues are still going into a school with 2,000+ pupils every day, aged from 3-18, having close contact with people from all over London and pretending like all is normal.

We have a number of people in the school community self-isolating but we are pushing on ahead as normal. I genuinely believe the expectation will be that we allow the virus to pass through us and we keep on going. All of us teachers are under no illusion that we will almost certainly become sick.

If schools do close, we have put in place very rigorous remote-learning procedures. As it's a large private school, it's BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) meaning all pupils take their own laptops to school every day anyway. It's quite a forward-thinking school which is heavy on electronic learning so we're well-placed to cope with having to close.

Unfortunately, other less well-resourced schools in my area are woefully unprepared. I worry about them and about what will happen when they close.
