    Map Pack
PRTA has been working hard to get some maps ready for a mappack that will be used for our events. Using git repositories and testing teams, as well as cooperating with clans and units in and outside of PRTA to produce the promtion, we are very proud to present the PRTA MAP TEST Pack!

Here is an overview of all the maps:
The Karez Offensive 4km Canada VS MEC
Borovsko Bridge 2km Russia VS Militia
    Temelin 1km US(60s) VS Militia
Adak 4km US Army VS China

The North American, European, and Russian Servers will all feature event servers for this mappack. With servers located far and wide we feel the community can find servers close to their location to play on. As always, the passwords for the servers will be released on the teamspeak prior to the event starting.

    [IMG] [IMG] [IMG]

The password for the map files will be announced on saturday the 18th of April. The password for the servers will be given once the PRTA teamspeak reaches over 200 users. If that does not happen the password will be released at 1800PRT. The servers will run for all of sunday aswell.

Nope, Lack of updates on the PR forums means we can't track it and help guide to to meeting the PR standards. For example Adak interests me, but its the first time I have seen it, and see a few issues from the screenshot alone and would need to go through it to find all the errors.

If you enjoy the maps, there is a good chance the mappers are willing to give them the final polish to bring them into the offical PR.

More then enough time to test them plus making updates on the forums. Those reasons are so weird. Who says they aren't getting the attention they need after the Maptest so PR can work with the map makers. But you're already saying no...

As I said to temexter before, without these maps being on some public forum to discuss, we cannot assist and they will without a doubt never make it into the game. So they are stuck in limbo of events. Which is obviously fine and they still will get played a lot (I'm sure PRTA can provide good support there given it's size) but not everyone in PR will get to play these. In general, if these maps would have been having (updated) threads on realitymod.com we could have assisted from the start. Which might have helped with certain aspects of them.

And surely those threads can be made after test-events. But for non-mappers who don't know, the bfeditor is a pile of shit. Re-working maps is really no fun. It's horrible. A good evidence of that is the 10183830 unfinished maps in the community map forums that are 80% done, look pretty sweet but are unbalanced or unoptimized or just lack creative quality. And they never seem to be able to get over that final push. The same fate sometimes also happens to PR team maps, make no mistake on that part. We are in the same boat  A good reason to keep a thread updated, ask regularly for feedback, is so you don't have to fix stuff after. I know this from first hand with Goose Green.

You can ask Ason how fucked-up it can be to have a great map(grozny) only to see it suffer from optimization problems. He seemingly doesn't want to alter the map to run better so yeah, limbo once again. We can only assist and try to come up with a solution together.(which we tried for Grozny with combining sidewalks into one mesh(something I have tried myself but didn't work out :frown: . pretty impossible to combine so many col meshes without some script))But for that to happen there needs to be communication. Which you guys with your private development doesn't allow for. And lets face the truth, the most knowledge on PR modding is not within your private forum, but is within the PR team and it's ENTIRE community. So yes, making the threads afterwards is far from good.

And while there are some really good maps in there, some are just generated heightmaps with some overgrowth and 20 statics with not much thought or creativity behind them.(note that we also have PR maps like that THAT I WANT TO SEE GONE, YES KASHAN, YOU). Not really worth putting in the mod neither, except if they bring some really fresh to the table (thinking of simple maps like Yamalia for example that still are quiet unique), but other then that those type of maps are better left for events

Looking at for example FH2 they have the same kinda thing. Official maps of great quality and dedication. And lesser maps put into events like the FH tournaments. But again, that's totally fine. it's just a choice you have to make.

Choice is up to these mappers to decide where they want there map to end up being, and lot of that is to do with their dedication to push it to the quality(that I think we can call good, but maybe I'm biased) that we come to expect from PR maps.

And yes I'm in class so bored so wrote a lot of words here. deal with it. I'm not trying to be mister negative, just trying to keep a realistic answer to the players and the mappers about this issue. All I want is more maps in the end for us all to play

Lets look at what I went through yesterday.

Woke up, worked on on fixing some small issues for Nuijamaa only to have the editor crash half way through.

    Went to school

    Did school work

    Worked on my own project

    Went and checked out

Flew through Op Bobcat for about 20 minutes and found a load of errors the mapper should have found himself. Signs he didnt properly test himself, which makes me feel I wasted my time.

    Wrote a post for it

    Continued work on another tutorial

    Worked on my project again

    Did school work

Between my own life/ projects its hard to find time to go through another mappers map and find errors and its really annoying finding errors he should find himself.

Hey this is me helping. I am organizing a mappack, we are following up on the mappers and working closely with them to ensure balance and performance.

In exchange people actually see their map being tested & played, that feeling can't be understated. The steep requierments of the development teams means alot of maps won't get in. This atleast gives people the motivation to stick their asses in gear for a little while longer, and maybe finish maps.

The development team can't deliver that, at most you have NEW running official events for you
